Arrival and check-in

Reception opens at 09:30. Both team members must report to the reception desk by 10:15, so we can confirm that all teams are present. Each player will receive a shirt, a token for one drink and an energy bar.

Coming by car? Register your number plate and arrange parking at the terminal in the entrance hall as soon as you arrive. (Paid parking starts at 12:00, so you have some margin.)

The welcome and briefing start at 10:30. They will mainly be in Dutch. If you do not speak Dutch, please read this practical information and the tournament rules carefully beforehand. You are very welcome to ask questions in English on the day.

The first round starts at 11:00 sharp.

Programme and food

We play six Chadel rounds without a scheduled lunch break. Eat and drink whenever you have time between matches; eating your sandwiches while playing chess is also allowed.

Three sandwiches are provided per person. Vegetarian and vegan sandwiches are reserved for the players who requested them.

The sixth round is expected to finish around 15:30, followed by the championship and bronze-medal finals on court and table 1. Please stay to watch! Snacks are provided; additional drinks from the bar are at your own expense.

The prize ceremony follows immediately after both finals. There will also be special prizes in kind, for which you must still be present.

We expect to finish around 17:00, depending on the progress of the tournament and any tie-breaks.

Required physical fitness

Please do not underestimate the physical fitness required to play this tournament. All teams are expected to complete 6 rounds of chadel. That means playing 6 x 8 = 48 games of padel on a single day - the equivalent of playing two padel three-setters both ending with the score: 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

Chess gives you a break from padel, but depending on the pairings, you may finish one round with padel and start the next with padel again. Be prepared to play two blocks of eight games without a chess break in between.

To avoid cooling down too much while playing chess, bring plenty of fresh shirts and warm layers, such as a sweater, tracksuit jacket and long training trousers. The playing hall can be chilly during wintery weather.

Pairings and results

Use StickChess in your phone’s browser to check your pairings and submit results. No app installation is needed.

At the start of each round, check your opponents and starting location:
• “Court 5” means you start with padel on court 5, then move to table 5 for chess.
• “Table 5” means you start with chess at table 5, then move to court 5 for padel.

Go straight to your starting location and begin promptly. After finishing the first sport, move directly to the other location with the same number. If it is still occupied, wait nearby and be ready to take over.

Once both sports are finished, agree the results with your opponents and have one player submit them through StickChess. Submit your results before taking a break or continuing to play for fun.

If you enter a result incorrectly, report it to the tournament desk immediately.

When the horn announces the next round, stop any casual play, check your new pairing and go straight to your next starting location. Please leave the balls on the court.

Safety and officials

Always wear your racket’s wrist strap while playing padel. Take care around the glass walls and doors, and do not wipe your hands on the glass.

If you need first aid, contact the Plaza Padel staff.

For padel questions or disagreements, ask Pierre Duboué-Sadron or another official wearing a referee shirt.

For chess questions or disputes, stop the clock and call our chess arbiter, Feike Liefrink.

We will point out the officials and the tournament desk during the welcome briefing.

Getting there and away

By car

There is paid parking all around Plaza Padel from 12h onwards. Since this is a business park and it’s a Saturday, there should be plenty of parking space. So if you come by car, you can park your car anywhere near Plaza Padel (unless you see specific signs telling you that it is prohibited there). In the entrance hall of Plaza Padel, there is a parking pay station for you to register your car and pay a small fee for the whole day.

By public transport

It is also very easy to reach Plaza Padel by public transport. Tram 17 serves both major The Hague train stations (Den Haag CS and Den Haag HS) and stops at “Handelskade”, which is at 3 minutes walking distance from Plaza Padel. Using public transport in the Netherlands is possible by “checking-in” and “checking-out” with any bank card to any train / tram / bus.
